Beginners Dressmaking Weekend

• The Beginners Dressmaking Weekend is the ideal sewing class for those who want to begin making their own clothing, as we cover the best techniques to use for a great finish and you receive expert support throughout the entire process.
• For this weekend of sewing, we will be sewing the Peppermint Wrap Top which fits bust measurements from 76cm/30″ up to 131cm/52″, which is approximately UK size 4 – 26.

•  All levels are welcome, but it is ideal if you have already mastered the basics of using a sewing machine – a perfect class to take after the Beginners Sewing Class, or equally for a more intermediate sewist who wants a gently paced dressmaking class.

What You’ll Learn on the Beginners Dressmaking Weekend

• how to choose your pattern size

• advice on choosing fabric

• how to trace a pattern and make simple fit adjustments

• how to sew set-in sleeves

• how to sew darts

• how to sew facings

• how to hem a garment

On the first day, you will learn why it’s important to take your own measurements when using a dressmaking pattern, and learn about the strategies involved when picking the best size. There will be room to discuss simple style adjustments such as length, before we dedicate the afternoon to cutting your fabric and preparing to sew your garment.​

​On the second day, you can fully immerse yourself in making your garment. You will master how to create beautiful darts, sew set-in sleeves, hem and learn techniques for a neat finish.

The pace of the Beginners Dressmaking class is relaxed due to the fact we have the whole weekend, so there is plenty of time for personal fitting and support for each student.
