This class is suitable for complete beginner sewists, however, if you’re not sure if this is the right sewing class for you please get in touch.

This is a sewing class for complete beginners, with little to no knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machines, if possible.

What You’ll Learn in the Beginners Sewing Class

A dressmakers recommended sewing tools for beginners
In the morning, you will learn how to use the sewing machine. We will take a thorough walk-through the threading process, discover how tension works, as well as troubleshooting broken needles and wonky bobbins.
In the afternoon, you will tackle your first sewing project; a drawstring bag. The drawstring bag allows us cover some very versatile skills, including fabric cutting and pattern handling.
Spaces are limited to 6 participants per class to provide the ultimate learning experience
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don't have a sewing machine?
No machine, no problem - there are machines in the studio you're welcome to use for the day, just let me know beforehand. If you'd rather bring your own so you get comfortable on the machine you'll actually be sewing on at home, that's great too!
I've never touched a sewing machine before, will I be lost?
Not at all, that's exactly who this class is for. The class starts right from the beginning - how to thread the machine, how tension works, what all the dials and buttons actually do. Nobody else in the class has done it before either, or not for a very long time!
What if my sewing machine is old or a bit basic?
Older machines are often better than new budget ones, so don't let that put you off bringing it along. If you're not sure whether yours is up to the job, send me a photo or the model name beforehand for a quick check.
Do I need any sewing experience at all?
None. This class assumes zero experience - if you've never so much as threaded a bobbin, you're in exactly the right place.

What’s not included
You will need to bring your own fabric for this sewing class or bring £5 to get some on the day. If you don’t know where to start with this, I will give you some guidance in your prep pack once you’ve booked.
Lunch is not included, please bring a packed lunch.
