Have you saved up all of your offcuts and fabric scraps with the idea to use them for something in the future? Well then, this is the sewing class for you!
-
In my Patchwork Garment Weekend sewing class, you’ll learn how to piece together and sew traditional patchwork designs, or have support in designing your own, and then turn that design into a wearable garment.
-
Perhaps you want to bring a treasured and sentimental textile to life in the form of a garment which can be passed down through your family for years to come, with support and guidance to do so.
-
All abilities of sewing are welcome on our patchwork quilting weekend, although prior experience of sewing is essential.
How Payment Plans Work
I use a third party website, GoCardless, to manage payment plans for my sewing classes.
Simply fill in your details as requested, state how many payments you’d like your payment plan to be (there is a maximum of 2 for this sewing class) when prompted and pay your deposit. Your payment plan will be manually set up using the email address you provide and split into even payments.
Â
Registering for a payment plan will automatically enrol you on the sewing class, and so the same cancellation policy applies.
What You’ll Learn on Make Your Own Patchwork Garment Weekend
-
creative process of designing – colour combo, going through design process, patchwork techniques (more adventurous – designing your own patch)
-
how to piece together and sew patchwork designs, particularly with a garment pattern in mind
-
techniques for hand quilting and machine quilting your design
-
how to incorporate your finished patchwork piece into your pattern so that it shines
I will be drafting a pattern for a simple gilet, as this will be easy to complete over the course of the weekend and additionally is a great layering piece and can be worn in multiple seasons.
If you would prefer to integrate your patchwork into a jacket, I will be providing further guidance on patterns which would be most suitable for this. If this is your chosen option, it is unlikely you will finish your garment during the class.
Before the course, you will gather your materials – patchwork really lends itself to diving into all of those beautiful fabric scraps and project offcuts you’ve been saving for years (I know it’s not just me!). Or perhaps there is sentimental value attached to a particular piece of fabric or textile that you’d love to incorporate into a piece of clothing? Bring along anything you would like to use, and I will help you to create something cohesive and beautiful.
On day one, we will be sewing our patchwork designs; you can either pick a traditional patchwork design or create your own. Throughout this process you will have lots of guidance and help, and references will be provided (or you can bring your own if there is something specific you would like to create). Once the patchwork is sewn, we will decide whether it would be best to hand quilt or machine quilt your project.
On day two, we will put the garment (gilet or your chosen pattern) together. Depending on the garment design that you choose, or the intricacy of your patchwork design, you may not finish sewing your garment by the end of the day but will certainly be well on your way to completing it.
Spaces are limited to 7Â participants per class to provide the ultimate learning experience
