- There comes a certain point in your home sewing journey where you begin to get an itch to design your own patterns based off of the knowledge you’ve gained throughout your time as a sewist.
- This sewing weekend is ideal for those who may have been dabbling with fitting for a while, but translating that knowledge into your own personalised base pattern block to use in an infinite amount of designs feels overwhelming, or something you don’t feel confident undertaking alone.
- On my Pattern Cutting Foundations course, we’ll be using your measurements to create a bodice and sleeve pattern block specifically designed for you and by you.

You’ll be taught in person by an experienced pattern cutter (me!), so any questions or road blocks you come up against can be answered as they occur.

This sewing class is ideal for a Garment Explorer or Seasoned Sewist, looking to take their sewing skills to the next level. The ability to use a sewing machine, use sewing patterns and having previous garment making experience is essential. Fitting skills will be an integral part of this sewing class, and although not an essential.

What You’ll Learn on the Pattern Cutting Foundations Weekend

how to draft a bodice block from scratch using your own measurements

how to sew and fit the toile to your body so it’s ready to use for designing

how to use a pattern cutting book so you can continue experimenting with ideas

gain a deeper understanding of darts, seams, grainlines, and notches
We will be creating a bodice and sleeve block, which can be used for making tops, dresses, blouses, shirts etc.
Although we will not be making trouser block in this sewing class, you will leave with the skills to draft your own trouser block following a trusted source of pattern cutting instruction.
On the first day, we’ll be taking accurate body measurements and learning how to draft a bodice and sleeve block. We’ll also be adding seam allowance to your block and cutting out your toile.
On the second day, we will be sewing and fitting your toile to your body while learning to bring pattern cutting modifications to your block.
We will not be sewing a final garment in this class but my Freeranger or Online Membership would be ideal to get additional support and accountability to making your drafted and finished garment.
Spaces are limited to 4 participants per class to provide the ultimate experience for you.

Teas and coffee on tap, fruits and snacks.
Pattern paper, pattern master and tape measure are provided in the class.
What’s not included
Lunch is not included, please bring a packed lunch with you on both days.
Please come prepared with your own calico fabric and threads,
